Sam Friedman is the Editor-In-Chief of the Property & Casualty edition of National Underwriter, in charge of day-to-day editorial operations, including story assignments, editing and graphic support. He also writes a weekly opinion column and a blog, "A View From the Press Box." Mr. Friedman joined NU in 1981 as a staff writer covering the independent agent beat. He was promoted to Assistant Editor in 1984, Managing Editor in 1986, Editor in 1996 and Editor-In-Chief in 2001. He also served as Interim Publisher in 2003. Before joining NU, Mr. Friedman was Associate Editor of Modern Grocer for three years. Before that, he edited a number of community newspapers and completed an internship at the Associated Press. Mr. Friedman graduated from Brooklyn College in 1979, completed the Professional Publishing Course at Stanford University in 1997 and completed Northwestern University's Advanced Media Management course in 2003. He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Deadline Club, the New York Financial Writers Association and the American Business Press Association. |

Susanne Sclafane is the managing editor of the Property & Casualty edition of National Underwriter. Ms. Sclafane assists with the day-to-day operations of the magazine, and is responsible for the development and placement of stories relating to specialty lines of insurance. She also puts together NU's regular Data Insights feature, including the annual ranking of property-casualty insurers. Before joining National Underwriter as a staff writer in 1995, Ms. Sclafane worked as an actuary for 14 years. She began her career at the National Council on Compensation Insurance and later held positions at two property-casualty insurance companies and worked as a consultant to more than 80 client companies for two Big Five accounting firms. Her responsibilities included analyzing loss reserves, performing pricing analyses and managing valuation engagements related to insurance company acquisitions and other transactions. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. |

Ara C. Trembly is the Senior Editor, Technology, of National Underwriter and has been a writer, marketing professional and public speaker on technology for business since 1982. He has written for a wide range of business and technology publications, including Computer Decisions, Beyond Computing, PC Today, Office Systems and many more. He has spoken before the Business Technology Association, ASCnet, the AMS User Group, ACORD and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, among others. Most recently, he delivered a double session on Cutting Edge Technologies for the 21st Century at the ASCnet annual conference in Las Vegas. He has also given keynote addresses at the Fiserv Client Conference and at the Wisconsin IASA Annual Meeting. He is currently the technology editor and a regular columnist for both the P&C and Life/Health Editions of National Underwriter. |

Daniel Hays is the senior editor for National Underwriter's Property & Casualty edition. Mr. Hays covers workers' compensation and insurance fraud. He edits the "Workers' Compensation Review," "Claims Review," "Insurance Fraud Review" and "Claims Services Review" theme issues. Mr. Hays joined NU in 1997. He previously worked at BestWeek, Reuters and the New York Daily News. Mr. Hays holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Missouri University. He is a member of Silurians, The Deadline Club and Society of Business Editors and Writers. Mr. Hays is also editor of the NU Online News Service, which posts "Hot New" daily at NationalUnderwriter.com. |

Caroline McDonald is the senior editor of the Property & Casualty edition of the National Underwriter. Ms. McDonald edits NU's 'Corporate Insurance Buyers Report,' with bonus circulation to 15,000 risk managers, employee benefit managers and CFOs of the Fortune 2500. One of her specialties is the alternative markets, particularly captives. Before joining the National Underwriter in 2000 she most recently worked as an editor for New York Life Insurance Company; as an editor for “in ACORD” magazine and other publications for ACORD; and as a staff writer at “Insurance Journal” in California. She previously freelanced for United Press International in Los Angeles. In New York she worked as a freelance stringer for The New York Times Metro section and as a freelance writer for the Times Herald Record in Orange County, N.Y. Ms. McDonald holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also assistant editor of the NU Online News Service, which posts "Hot News" stories daily at NationalUnderwriter.com. |

Prior to that, he worked as a freelance reporter for two local New Jersey dailies, “The Home News-Tribune” in East Brunswick and the “Asbury Park Press” in Neptune, writing general assignment articles. He came to the nation’s capital after serving for 10 years as Financial Editor for a metropolitan daily in Baltimore for 10 years. He joined The National Underwriter three years ago with the acquisition of Insurance Chronicle by NU. |

Steve Tuckey is an Assistant Editor, specializing in the state regulatory beat, including on-the-scene coverage of the quarterly meetings convened by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the National Council of Insurance Legislators. He also covers a wide range of topics—from updates on specialty markets, to reinsurance, to breaking news for both the weekly magazine and daily online news service. Prior to joining NU, he covered the insurance industry for five years for Insurance Chronicle, a publication acquired by the National Underwriter in 2004. Before coming to New York in 1999, he spent 15 years in reporting and managerial capacities in several Southern California dailies. He is also the co-author of “Mogadishu! Heroism and Tragedy,” a book-length account of the siege in Somalia in 1993 that ultimately led to the U.S. exit from that country.
